Zestril medicine

Zestril medicine

Zestril tablets contain the active ingredient lisinopril, which is a type of medicine called ACE inhibitor. (NB. Lisinopril tablets can also be without stamps, that is, as general medicine.)

ACE inhibitors work by blocking the effect of compounds in the body called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Usually ACE produces another set called angiotensin II, as a natural part of the body controls blood pressure. Angiotensin II causes blood vessels to constrict and narrow, which increases the pressure inside blood vessels.

It blocks the effects of lisinopril ACE, it reduces the production of angiotensin II. This means that the blood vessels can relax and widen. The overall effect of this is to reduce blood pressure, so lisinopril can be used to reduce high blood pressure.

Reduced pressure in blood vessels means that the heart does not have to work as hard to pump blood around the body. This means that the ACE inhibitors, such as lisinopril can also be used to improve the symptoms of heart failure, when the heart is not pumping as efficiently as it should be, and to improve survival after a heart attack.

I'm a 56 yr. old female and have been taking blood pressure meds. for about 12 yrs. I'm currently taking triamterene and atenolol. I've been getting headaches off and on for the past month where I mostly feel very light headed. I also get Charlie horses in my calves at night and I have had chronic muscle pain in my calves for almost a year. I saw my doctor last week and my blood pressure was elevated (160/100) and so she added zestril to my meds. My blood pressure was only taken once during the office visit. Enough? When I checked my BP at home this morning it was 137/81 I'm wondering if either the triamterene or the atenolol can be giving me the headaches and/or the muscle aches. I skipped the triamterene yesterday and only took the atenolol and zestril and I felt great. This morning I took all three and so far, I still feel pretty good, except for the muscle pain in my calves. I will be going back to the drs. office this week to have my BP checked.

Doctor's Answer
Zestril package insert
Dear cmb,

Triamterene can cause low potassium and calcium which may cause muscle cramps. Although headaches are described in the package insert for triamterene as a possible side-effect it is not commonly reported. In would be unlikely that atenolol or zestril would cause these side-effects but cannot be excluded for sure without a trial of stopping them. I would ask your doctor about stopping the triamterene. In addition be sure to show him the log of your home blood pressures. This will assist him in adjusting your medicatons.

I was on triamterene for over a year and had constant leg cramps at night or the feeling of leg muscles "crawling". I am on zestril alone now and have lost the leg cramps so I'm assuming it was from triamterene. I've have a sense of smell disorder which I just realized started around the same time I started taking Zestril. Everything tastes and smells like some kind of chemical. Anyone have this with zestril?

Attention!

Zestril blood pressure
Some people may experience dizziness caused by low blood pressure in the first few days after taking the medication and, in particular, in the first dose. For this reason, the first dose should preferably be taken at bedtime. Your doctor may want you to take the first dose of the drug under medical supervision in hospital, if you are over 70, have low blood pressure, low levels of fluid and salt in the blood (for example, due to dehydration), unstable or severe heart failure , kidney problems, or are taking high-dose diuretic medications, several diuretic drugs, or some other drugs that dilate your blood vessels.
If you feel dizzy during treatment that can be released to lay until the symptoms pass. If you are affected should avoid potentially hazardous perform tasks such as driving or operation of machinary. If you often feel dizzy, you let your doctor know how your dose of this medication, you may need to decline.
Alcohol can increase blood pressure to reduce the influence of the drug, which can increase dizziness, and may increase the risk of fainting.
ACE inhibitors can sometimes cause allergic reaction called angioedema. This is more likely to occur in black patients. Stop this medicine, and consult your doctor immediately if you experience difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling of the person lips, tongue, throat, arms, legs or ankles, taking this medicine.
Your blood pressure, kidney function and the amount of potassium in the blood should be regularly monitored, and you have this medicine.

Zestril Medication

GENERIC NAME: lisinopril
BRAND NAME: Zestril, Prinivil
Zestril Medication
CLASS DRUG AND MECHANISM: Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Angiotensin is a chemical that is made in the body permanently. He narrows blood vessels and thereby maintains (elevates) blood pressure. When the enzyme is blocked by lisinopril, angiotensin can not be converted into its active form. As a result, blood vessels dilate and blood pressure falls.

PRESCRIPTION: Yes
Zestril Medication
GENERIC accessible: Yes

PREPARATION: 2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg oral tablets.

STORAGE: Lisinopril should be stored in a dry place at 15-30 ° C (59-86 ° F).

PRESCRIBED FOR: Lisinopril is used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure and improve survival after heart attack (myocardial infarction).

DOSING: Lisinopril be taken in doses, particularly under the guidance of a doctor. Lisinopril can be taken with or without food. Lisinopril should be taken at the same time each day to maintain a consistent blood levels of lisinopril. Lisinopril should not be taken within two hours after the antacid because antacid connects lisinopril and prevents its absorption. At doses of lisinopril often reduced gradually when to stop.

The starting dose of lisinopril 5 mg a day, and effective dose range for the treatment of heart failure is 5-40 mg per day. The dose may be increased to 10 mg every 2 weeks to achieve maximum effect. The maximum dose is 40 mg per day.

The starting dose of lisinopril for the treatment of high blood pressure is 10 mg per day. The normal dose range 20-40 mg per day. A dose of 80 mg is not much more effective than 40 mg.

The treatment of a heart attack (myocardial infarction) begins with 5 mg then 5 mg in 24 hours, 10 mg in 48 hours, then 10 mg per day. Treatment continued for 6 weeks.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: In general, lisinopril should not take potassium supplements with Diuretics, or that the preservation of potassium [such as hydrochlorothiazide / triamterene (Dyazide)], because the blood levels of potassium may rise to dangerous levels.

PREGNANCY: Lisinopril should not be taken during pregnancy because fetuses and newborns died when lisinopril administration during pregnancy.

NURSING MOTHERS: It is not known whether lisinopril excretion in breast milk.

SIDE EFFECTS: first lisinopril doses may cause dizziness due to the lower blood pressure. Lisinopril can cause nausea, headaches, anxiety, insomnia, drowsiness, nasal congestion and sexual dysfunction. Lisinopril must be stopped if there are symptoms or signs of allergic reactions, including swelling sense of the person, lips, tongue and throat. Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), and sometimes rash. Rarely, lisinopril can cause a drop in red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

Lisinopril can reduce kidney function, and each person takes the medicine should have their kidney function checked.

4.1 Therapeutic indications

Hypertension

Treatment of hypertension.

Zestril 10 mg
Heart failure

The treatment of the symptoms of heart failure.

Acute myocardial infarction

Short-term (6 weeks) treatment of haemodynamically stable patients within 24 hours after acute myocardial infarction.

Renal complications of diabetes

Treatment of kidney disease in hypertensive patients with Type 2 diabetes and incipient nephropathy (see section 5.1).

Posology 4.2 and the method of administration

Zestril must be made orally in a single daily dose. Like all other drugs taken once a day, should take Zestril about the same time every day. Depreciation Zestril tablets is not affected by food.

The dose should be individualised according to the patient's profile and blood pressure response (see section 4.4).

Hypertension

Zestril may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other classes of antihypertensive therapy.

Starting dose

In patients with hypertension usual recommended starting dose is 10 mg. Patients with highly activated renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (in particular, renovascular hypertension, salt and / or layer volume, cardiac decompensation or severe hypertension) may experience excessive pressure in autumn after the initial dose. A 2.5-5 mg starting dose is recommended for such patients and the initiation of treatment should be conducted under medical supervision. A lower starting dose is required if renal view (see Table 1 below).

The maintenance dose

Usually the effective maintenance dosage of 20 mg administered in a single daily dose. In general, if the desired therapeutic effect can not be achieved in the period of 2 to 4 weeks, at a dose level, the dose could be further increased. The maximum dose used in the long-term, controlled clinical trials with 80 mg per day.

Diuretic patients

Symptomatic hypotension may occur after the beginning of therapy with Zestril. This is more likely in patients who are being treated currently Diuretics. Attention is therefore recommended, as these patients can be the volume and / or salt depleted. If possible, the diuretic should be dispensed from 2 to 3 days before the start of therapy with Zestril. In hypertensive patients in the diuretic which can not be terminated, with Zestril therapy should begin with 5 mg dose. Renal function and serum potassium should be monitored. In subsequent Zestril doses should be adjusted according to blood pressure response. If required, diuretic therapy may be renewed (see section 4.4 and 4.5).
Zestril 10 mg

Dosage adjustment in violation of kidney

The dosage in patients with renal damage should be based on creatinine clearance as indicated in Table 1.
